What Podia's email subscriber limit actually means

Podia's email is good. The thing that catches people is not a missing feature, it is a ceiling: each plan includes a set number of email subscribers, and when you reach it your marketing email stops while your receipts carry on.

Read off Podia's own pricing page and sending-limits article, in a browser, on 12 September 2026. The email prices used in the sums below are our own published figures, read off each vendor's pricing page on 6 September 2026. We have not run Podia ourselves.

The limits, and what Podia counts

Podia's email allowance comes with the platform plan. Billed yearly, these are its own figures.

Mover$42$5041005% Podia transaction fee
Shaker$84$1008500No Podia transaction fee
Earthquaker$150$18001,000No Podia transaction fee

The counting rule is kinder than people assume. Podia: "Only contacts who are actively subscribed to receive your emails count toward this limit. Contacts marked as Not subscribed or Unconfirmed are not counted."SourceSo a list full of people who never confirmed does not push you over the line, and cleaning your list genuinely lowers the bill.

What actually stops at the ceiling

This is the part worth knowing before it happens, because it splits your email into two halves and only one of them keeps working.

  • Marketing stops. "Broadcasts and campaigns: You won't be able to send broadcast emails or campaign emails until you upgrade your email tier."
  • Receipts carry on. "Transactional emails, like purchase confirmations, failed payment notices, and webinar reminders, will continue to send as usual."
  • Nothing resumes by itself. Podia warns that once sending is restored you have to reschedule your broadcasts and resume your paused campaigns by hand.

The third one is the quiet cost. A welcome campaign that gets paused does not queue people up and deliver later. New buyers arriving while you are over the limit simply do not get the sequence, and you will not notice unless you go looking.

One good thing: Podia does not upgrade you behind your back. It says it will not add subscribers to your plan automatically, it emails you as you get close, and the billing change is yours to make. If your list shrinks later, you can downgrade.

Podia's email is genuinely good, which is why this matters

It would be easy to read a ceiling as a sign the tool is weak. It is not. Podia runs real automated sequences, and its own entrance triggers include "Added to audience", "Signs up for product", "Completes lesson", "Joins waitlist", "Registers for event", "Adds product to wishlist", "Cancels plan" and "Tagged with". Each email in a sequence carries its own delay in days, and Podia says you can add as many emails to a sequence as you like.Source

It will also email people who never bought anything, which is the large gap between Podia and Teachable. Form signups land in your audience, and waitlist joiners can be filtered and mailed.Source

The one hard gate is consent, and Podia is blunt about it: "Only Subscribed accounts will receive your emails, no matter the combination of filters you use."SourceThere is also a small scheduling quirk worth knowing: broadcasts can only be scheduled on the hour and the half hour.

So the question at the ceiling is not "is this tool good enough". You already know it is. It is "what is the cheapest way to keep sending".

The sum: upgrade the plan, or add a tool beside it

Say you are on Shaker with 500 included and your list has reached 1,000. Podia's route is Earthquaker at $150 a month. The other route is to stay on Shaker and run a dedicated email tool next to it. Using our own published prices at 1,000 subscribers, read 6 September 2026:

Podia Shaker plus a dedicated email tool at 1,000 subscribers, against Podia Earthquaker
Podia Shaker, plusThat toolTotal a monthAgainst Earthquaker
Systeme.io$0 free at this size$84$66 less
MailerLite$17.10 billed annually$101.10$48.90 less
AWeber$25 billed monthly$109$41 less
beehiiv$43 billed annually$127$23 less

Every pairing costs less than upgrading, which is unusual: on most of these comparisons at least one option loses. It happens here because Podia's email allowance is small relative to its plan price, so the jump you are being asked to pay for is mostly subscribers.

Now the parts that would make that table dishonest on its own.

  • Earthquaker is not only email. It also lifts products, videos, spaces and assistants to unlimited, against Shaker's capped versions of each. If you need any of those, you are buying them too and the comparison stops applying.
  • Dropping to Mover to save money usually backfires. Mover carries a 5 percent Podia transaction fee that Shaker and Earthquaker do not. At $2,000 a month of sales that fee alone is more than the gap between the two plans, so the cheapest plan is not the cheapest outcome for anyone actually selling.
  • A second tool is a second thing to maintain. Podia already knows who bought what. An outside tool has to be told, through a connection you set up and that can quietly stop working.

Podia also says you can add subscribers to your plan at any time rather than changing tier. It does not publish what those cost on the page we read, so we are not going to guess at a figure. That one is worth checking on your own billing page before you decide.

You do not need a second tool if

  • Your active subscriber count is comfortably inside your tier, and you are not about to run a lead magnet that fills it.
  • You value your emails knowing what somebody bought and how far through a course they are, which Podia knows natively.
  • You would rather pay Podia more than maintain a connection between two systems.

If all three are true, upgrade the tier and stop reading. The table above is for the person whose list grew faster than their revenue did, which is the usual reason people search for this.

If you want the tool beside it

The choice comes down to your list size and whether it has to automate on a free plan. Both come off each vendor's own pricing page, with the date we read it.

How we test.

Podia email limits, answered

How many email subscribers does Podia include?
Read off Podia's own pricing page on 12 September 2026: Mover includes 100, Shaker includes 500, and Earthquaker includes 1,000. Podia counts only contacts who are actively subscribed. People marked Not subscribed or Unconfirmed do not count toward the limit.
What happens when you hit the Podia subscriber limit?
Marketing stops and receipts carry on. Podia's own words: "Broadcasts and campaigns: You won't be able to send broadcast emails or campaign emails until you upgrade your email tier," while "Transactional emails, like purchase confirmations, failed payment notices, and webinar reminders, will continue to send as usual." Scheduled broadcasts are set to draft and campaigns are paused, so you have to reschedule and resume them yourself afterwards.
Will Podia upgrade me automatically when I go over?
No, and it says so twice. Podia will not add subscribers to your plan by itself, it sends reminder emails as you approach the limit, and you make the billing change manually. If your list shrinks later you can downgrade again.
Can I just buy more subscribers instead of changing plan?
Podia says you can add more at any time. It does not publish what those extra subscribers cost on the pricing page we read, so we are not going to put a figure on it. Check it on your own billing page, where the change is made.
