Moving from Kit to MailerLite
The people on your list travel in a file. Almost nothing else does. Here is what you carry over, what you build again, and the one step that costs you the list if you take it in the wrong order.
Export your list before you cancel Kit
Deleting the account is self-serve and takes 24 to 48 hours. Export first: their help page says all data is permanently deleted, with no recovery window documented.

Download the file, open it, and check it has rows in it before you touch the cancel button. A file you have not opened is not a backup.
What comes across
- Everyone on your list, with their names and whatever else you keep about them, in the file you export.
- Who bought from you, but only if you export that as a column of its own. It is the one thing worth checking twice, because without it you will email a paying student a sales pitch for the course they already own.
- A written guide for this exact move. Self-serve only. No done-for-you migration is offered, but they publish import guides for Mailchimp, Kit, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, beehiiv, Substack and others.

What you build again yourself
MailerLite does not offer to do the move for you. We cannot see inside anyone's import, and we will not guess at it. What we can show you is the size of the job, in the words of a company that sells this same work as a service.
AWeber does the move for its own new customers, free, and lists what its team redoes:
- lists
- tags
- subscribers
- sign up forms
- campaigns
- automations
- up to three email templates
In plain words: the people, the labels you put on them, your sign up forms, and the emails that send themselves. Moving to MailerLite, everything after the people is yours to do again.
That list is what AWeber says about its own service, not a claim about MailerLite's import. Checked on 6 September 2026.Source
What you gain, what you give up
You gain
- A welcome sequence that runs on the free plan, so new subscribers hear from you straight away
You give up
- 9,750 free subscriber places, so the bill starts sooner

Moving from Kit to MailerLite, answered
- Will I lose anyone moving from Kit to MailerLite?
- Not from the export itself. People go missing in two ways. You cancel Kit before you have the file, or the new tool asks everyone to confirm they still want your emails and most of them never open that message. Do the export first, and read MailerLite's import settings before you press go.
- Does MailerLite move my setup across for me?
- No. Self-serve only. No done-for-you migration is offered, but they publish import guides for Mailchimp, Kit, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, beehiiv, Substack and others. So the contacts are your job, and so is everything you built around them.
- How long does moving from Kit to MailerLite take?
- The contact file is minutes. The rebuild is the job. AWeber, which does this kind of move for its own new customers, gives itself five business days to redo lists, tags, subscribers, sign up forms, campaigns, automations and up to three email templates. Here that is your afternoon, not theirs.
- Should I move at all?
- Only if the reason is on this page. You do give something up: 9,750 free subscriber places, so the bill starts sooner. If nothing in the gain column is a problem you actually have today, stay where you are.
